Light-up plush

*This is the Makerspace project post #3. See prior posts for explanation of this amateur learning series.

Circuit practice from the LED pop-up card was vital for this week’s maker project- a light up plushie! I think I got my frustration out enough with the paper circuit to begin this one much more confidently. Same concept for the circuitry, but this time using steel conductive thread instead of copper tape. I don’t know if it was the (albeit single) circuit creation experience I had now or merely this project utilizing needle, thread, and my hands that kept me well within my comfort zone- but this was so satisfying!

I opted to create a small pocket for the battery component to keep the stuffing entirely contained while still concealing the light switch. The extra time, which was negligible with this in my wheelhouse, was well worth the result! Here is the circuitry and switch “pocket” to keep the stuffing separate. Added benefit of the stuffing not catching or otherwise moving the electrical connections over time!

Hand-stitching is therapeutic…the repetition and needed precision…*big long sigh* I’ll definitely be making more of these as holiday gifts for my nieces!

Stay tuned this Christmas season because The LED practice here has inspired a new stitching/embroidery idea…Any guesses?! Here’s the finished product of my first ever plush attempt:
